Leaf Of Life-Miracle Plant!

Known throughout the world by different names, this plant truly is one of God’s miraculous creations to aide Mankind.¬†

The Quintessential Panacea?

Miracle Leaf, Life plant, the Mexican Love Plant, Leaf of Life, Tree of Life. Its scientific name is Bryophyllum pinnatum and the leaf of life has become a popular house plant for both decorative and medicinal uses.

The Tree of Life plant is native to Madagascar but is now established as a perennial around the globe in areas classified as tropical or sub-tropical, even in parts of the United States.

Many advocates of the plant have pointed to clinical studies showing this plant to have many healing properties including, but not limited to, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, detoxing, immune-boosting, anti-cancer, pain and inflammation relief, and diabetic blood glucose control as well.

The Leaf of Life plant has also been said to be a significant antihistamine and anaphylactic. It is used as an intestinal cleanser, for respiratory conditions such as shortness of breath, asthma, colds, coughs and bronchitis. The plant is traditionally dosed as a tea, leaf juice, or eaten raw sprinkled with a little salt (or without).

Some people claim that it aids in losing weight but this has not been proven. The other benefits such as intestinal cleansing may contribute to weigh-loss via waste removal and overall improvements in digestion.

The Real Miracle

The one aspect of this plant that will really blow your mind is how easy it propagates itself.

One leaf resting on moist soil can root and produce several new plants-sometime ten or more! I bought my two rooted starts on eBay for around $6. If you wanted to make some extra money for your gardening fund, this may be a good place to start. The photo above is the plant I received in the mail via the USPS from Florida to Indiana. It took about a week and I just potted it up to only pot I had available. It will hopefully perk up once it settles into its new home.

I will give an update in a few weeks to let you know how they are doing. This is my first Leaf of Life plant so I have no idea what to expect. But I am going to add these leaves to my other experimental ‘health improvement’ herbs to test the testimonies, so to speak. The Aloe Vera juice seems to be having a positive effect on my digestion and intestinal health already so maybe this miracle plant will boost those systems even more.

Until next time remember, “Life is a gas!”

Old Fart out.
